A Part of the Medical Department of Gastroenterology, Infectiology and Rheumatology of Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the Department of Rheumatology provides out-patient care for Patients with all types of with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases. The department is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases based on the new diagnosis and treatment approaches, such as biologic treatment (treatment with biotechnologically produced medicines).
In the out-patient department, we pefrorm multiple diagnostic manipulations including
- Blood tests
- Genotyping (HLA-B27)
- Capillary microscopy
- Joint ultrasonography
- Polarized light microscopy
- Lip biopsy
- Intra-articular Manipulations
Our area of interest and knowledge are spondylarthritides – a special group of rheumatic diseases, which are characterized by similar clinical manifestations. Their main features inflammatory back pain and/or asymmetric arthritis, mainly involving low extremities. Spondylarthritides are often associated with the presence of the genetic marker HLA-B27, and may progress to ankylosing spondylitis. Spondylarthritides are often diagnosed late, therefore our department offers out-patient appointments specially for patients with back pain. The department also provides urgent care.
